Abstract

In linguistics, figurative units (i.e., stylistic figures, metaphor, metonymy, personification, simile, etc.) are recognized as powerful tools of language from both logical and aesthetic perspectives. In artistic and literary discourse, they not only enrich the language but also reflect the worldview of a people, their national and cultural values, and their historical and psychological conditions. The study of figurative units in English and Uzbek allows for understanding not only the structural features of the language but also their semantic and pragmatic functions, as well as identifying intercultural differences. This article presents a deep analysis of the semantic structure, lexicographic interpretation, and cultural contextual role of figurative units in English and Uzbek. It also explores the characteristics of their translation and lexicographic study.
