TERRITORIAL CORRELATION BETWEEN SOIL TEMPERATURE, SOIL PROPERTIES AND PLANT GROWTH IN LOWER ZARAFSHON (PROBLEMS OF DESERTIFICATION)
Abstract
Analysis of soil temperature is the first and main research activity to assess temporal changes in soil temperature and its effect on plant growth and soil activity in the Lower Zarafshan region of Uzbekistan. The Lower Zarafshan valley, where the research area is located, is located in an arid zone with dry, hot summers and dry, cold winters. This study evaluates decadal changes in soil temperature in the region from 1980 to 2020 and assesses the potential impact of temperature increase on plant growth. To fulfill this task, a natural water basin (boundary) was prepared by processing satellite data (ASTER DEM) in the geographic information system environment. After delimitation of the research area, meteorological stations were selected to collect data for further analysis. For the period from 1980 to 2020, the data of three weather stations - Bukhara, Karakol, Oyogitma were obtained. Over the past 40 years, field observations have been conducted to collect evidence of desertification in the region. In addition, soil temperature was analyzed to show the effect of temperature increase on floristic life. Our goal was to compare soil temperature data to look for anomalies and consistent increases in soil temperature. Based on daily temperature data, average values, average minimum and average maximum values were calculated. This study clearly shows that the average temperature has increased by one or two degrees, which poses a threat to the agricultural activity of the region in the future. The overall results of this study show that an increase in soil temperature leads to a decrease in vegetation, agricultural productivity and biomass.
